BL> Ask yourself why a perfect copy of the Mona Lisa is not BL> generally considered to be true art. To me, it is! I don't have BL> this paradox. If it generates in me the feeling of awe, of "how BL> did he do it" then it *is* art. RM> I'd never thought of our politicians as artists before, but now RM> you mention it... Art (to me) is a continuity, running from great art down to mere good work. I take pleasure observing a good politician at work (Joh and Neville Wran were great), just as I like the insights offered by literature, the flow of poetry blurring ideas, a field of wheat by Van Gogh, a pretty Matisse, a musical trip, or a drop-forged spanner. Not all of us are as creative as the great ones, but most of us are capable of art... good work, well done. To me, this is also art. There is great beauty in a simple electronic circuit. There is a beauty in it art-groupies never see, sadly... ... [later - re: Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the Emperor] I've just been listening the the Vienna Philharmonic's 150th Anniversary concert, and they played a little Beethoven. It did not sound much like the QSO's version of the Emperor Suite, I must say. I could be very wrong, but it seems to me that *THAT* is the way to play Beethoven. Maybe the QSO has the real secret, a way to remove all the drama from the music, to make the explosions flap like a wet rag, to take the Beethoven roller-coaster and turn it into a trip on the dodgems, a giggle on the gurglephone... or maybe Beethoven meant it to be played like one the best orhestras in the World does it, and just maybe, THAT is the way that it works best; the *right* way. Or maybe there hundreds of ways to play it right, and the QSO is a great orchestra... ROFL!! Can't you hear the difference between crap, and good? Compared to the Vienna Philharmonic, the QSO are silly twits only masquerading as musos. I hope they haven't given up their day jobs. and the Musikvereinsaal is a nice hall, too, but I left before the fat lady sang Mahler...
