I always ask mnyself what would happen if they were removed entirely. Could
this country survive as a representative democracy with a concept of
individual rights if anyone in the world could immigrate here? I don' think

I think that if immigration restrictions were totally lifted we'd be
looking at maybe a half billion or more people immigrating here in 5-10
years.

I don't think that law and order could be maintained.

I also think that many of the immigrants would vote in ways that were
similar to how they vote now in some of the countries where they come from.
There are African countries where the same guy has gotten reelected for
President for decades in part because the people just give their support to
whoever is in power precisely because they are powerful.
