I tried listening to some of the ham frequencies related to hurricane 
emergency traffic during landfall of Fran but could just barely hear some of 
the folks back there in the Carolinas.  On the other hand, a ham operator in 
Louisiana sounded as if he was right in my back yard.  There was lots of 
traffic from the midwest but hardly any from the storm area.  I kept a pretty 
close watch on 14325 kHz but didn't hear any storm related activity.  Happy
