Not in any kind of practical sense. I had a GIF to ANSI converter but it was
less than satisfactory. It would only convert a small area of an image to
ANSI and most of the time the results were hardly recognizable as an image.
With the exception of RIP graphics, which most of the BBS scene appears to be
giving up on, OPUS is text/ANSI only and probably will never evolve past
that.
If being able to display images is something important to you, you might want
to look at Shotgun Pro. This is a BBS package that displays SVGA graphics
and images to your SVGA callers who use the free to distribute client
terminal program, as well as ANSI and TTY to callers who prefer to use more
conventional terminal programs.
I believe that BBS package supports Fido message format (*.MSG) as well as
SQUISH and JAM, so it could be run "in parallel" with OPUS using something
like BBSELECT to allow callers to select between up to 9 diffrent BBS
packages on one phone line.
But you *WILL HAVE TO* use an image capable BBS to display real image
reens.
