Irvine breaks Mugello record

(15-Oct-98) - Eddie Irvine set the fastest lap time by an F300 on the
Mugello circuit in Tuscany yesterday.

The Ferrari driver took this years car around the track in 1m26.270 to set
the record during one of two long stints.

Irvine's improved performance demonstrates Ferrari's commitment to
improving the F300 ahead of the championship decider in Japan on November
1.

The team have been testing almost non-stop in an effort to ensure success
at the Japanese Grand Prix where they need Michael Schumacher to win and
Irvine to come second to guarantee the drivers' championship for the
Schumacher.

Both Irvine and Schumacher are testing all week at the Italian circuit.
