Schumacher fastest in final warm-up

(1-Nov-98) - Michael Schumacher emerged fastest, narrowly ahead of the
McLarens of David Coulthard and title rival Mika Hakkinen in the final
half-hour of practice before this afternoon's championship deciding
Japanese Grand Prix. In the cool, early morning conditions, times were
significantly slower than yesterday's qualifying session - perhaps
suggesting a one-stop strategy for all the top runners.

Ralf Schumacher completed the top four for Jordan, ahead of Eddie Irvine's
Ferrari and the Williams of Heinz-Harald Frentzen. Jarno Trulli suffered
the worst accident of the weekend so far, sliding off the road at the fast
Degner curve, and almost colliding with a Benetton as he bounced back onto
the track. Whether he'll still be able to race the new AP01B chassis in
this afternoon's race is unknown.
