I think that polygamy SHOULD be legal, in all its permutations so long as
all the spouses are of age. I think the "line marriage" in
Heinlein's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" has a lot going for it,
and it was a private CONTRACT, not marriage recognized by the State.
