The same thing happened to me.

I think it's the hot smoke that gives the burning sensation on your tongue.
A lot of men smoked them when I was a boy and naturally I got curious when
older.  Like scotch, it requires getting used to.  I wanted to try a Cuban
cigar, but could not afford one, so I ended up smoking Winston -- a lot of
them.
