I'd leave her tail the way it is.  They use that to steer with when
running. We bring in all four of the dogs at night and they sleep in a
large kennel. They are social animals by nature and get along very well. 
My shepherd had the run of the house.  Intelligent dogs will not mess their
sleeping quarters as a rule, but accidents will happen, especially if we
oversleep.
