I recently was a tearjerker on HBO, or rather the first vignette was a
tearjerker in which half of a mid-century lesbian couple dies and her
distant relatives come to take everything away from the house in which they
had lived for decades, and the house too.  Admittedly they were closeted
back then, but even back then a legal will could have left everything to
her lover.  The dear departed made an error which could screw up certainly
unmarried hetero couples as well.  SHE DIED INTESTATE!
