My current car (purchased 5 years ago) was $2900. It has just clocked
over the 200k mark, but I expect to get a few more years out of it yet
seeing that it is a Cortina XL with the 4.1 litre motor. The previous
owner put a V8 gearbox in it, so not only has it lots of grunt, but it
is one of the most economical vehicles I have owned. 35mpg on a 400k
 run.

I bought an old Mazda RX3 with a 4 cyl 1800cc engine fitted for $750.
The steering was crook, no rear shockers, rust patches on the bodywork,
floor cracked under the drivers seat...etc .... It looked so bad that I
was never worried about someone pinching it. Drove it for 2.5 years and
sold it for $550. Apart from G&O I didn't spend a penny on it. Cheap
motoring!!!

Cheers
Niels
