Well, I just opened my local news email, and they are saying that if we are
hit by any sort of tsunami, it will be shortly after 1:00 PM this afternoon,
which is about five hours from now. For you folks who are living in the
continental USA, that would be at about:

EST - 10:00 PM Saturday
CST - 9:00 PM Saturday
RMT - 8:00 PM Saturday
PST - 7:00 PM Saturday

Tsunami alert for Pacific region issued

A tsunami warning is in effect for Guam and the entire Pacific region after
an 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck near the coast of central Chile
yesterday.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center estimates that if a tsunami is generated,
the arrival time for Guam would be 1:11 p.m. today.

The warning was issued at 8:45 p.m. yesterday, and as of 10 p.m., Guam
Homeland Security confirmed it has assigned personnel to monitor the
warning.

"We wait for two hours after the threshold to be in the clear," said Lesley
Leon Guerrero, the spokeswoman for Homeland Security. "Guam Homeland
Security and the Office of Civil Defense has been in contact with all
stakeholders and will continue to monitor the situation and provide
additional instructions as necessary."

You don't need to worry about us, though, as we are a few hundred feet above
sea level, and we don't live on the coast. The folks living on the southeast
end of our island would probably be affected the most; that is, if a tsunami
even arrives here. Who knows. I am not a meteorologist, or an oceanographer.
If Hawaii is expecting waves about eight feet above normal, perhaps we will
experience something similar here. We will know soon enough.
