From the command line, try: C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001

Your Windows directory Device name in CONFIG.SYS
MSCDEX will not (normally) load when a copy is already loaded. Thus, if it
loads without complaint, your other programs should start working. If so,
add the command above to your C:\WINDOWS\DOSSTART.BAT (I think that's the
name). If that does NOT fix your problem... well...?
