Well typically with kids.. she started crosscueing like crazy and wanted to
lope with any cues.. we've fixed that and will look for another way to get
her up to the lope. The other problem that cropped up again is something she
learned from Straw.. and that's to toss her head up in a transition from a
walk to a faster gait.. that's fixed again for the moment.

But I've got a 2 year old that's very quiet, level headed and will: walk,
trot, leg yield, side pass, back, pivot on the rear, do walk overs, and darn
near everything else I've tried with only a mild amount of work.

More then that.. you really don't want to get after her to hard.. you adress
the mistake and let her work herself into the proper thing you've asked for.
She's even started to learn some tricks.. like yawning on command. ;)

Well I have to rethink how I'm going to go at it next time. I do NOT want to
have to deal with the head thing and the crosscueing. I'll think about it and
then tinker a bit and see how we do.

Why is it that people don't use the grey matter between their ears? ;)

This is a real hard one to get them to stop.. and part of working on it is
how much the horse likes to please you and or likes to get along with you.

The horse is obviously cinchy.. someone pushed her to hard to fast by
cinching her up to tight to fast.. and not working up to an acceptable level
slowly.

This one takes some time and might not really work except to get her to cut
down on the actions.

If she does this.. slap her on the shoulder with an open hand and yell no
and/or quitit/whatever. Dont' slap hard.. but just enough to make noise and
get the point across that you are displeased with her actions. This ought to
get her to stop turned her head and feinting trying to bite (which she's
doing).

You can then continue to yell your displeasure when she snaps her teeth/jaws.
If she doesn't respond.. slap her shoulder again to make the point.

*IF* she stops and behaves.. make sure she knows beyond a shadow of a dount
that she's a good girl. take a bunch of time for this to make the point.

But more then that.. anytime she snaps her teeth.. let her know it's
unaceptable. Tush picked up grinded her teeth a bit from watching another
horse.... and she gets corrected EVERY time she does, very consistently.

The amount or frequincy that she grinds her teeth is dimishing.

Takes time Jean.. may never work 100%.. but it's worth the effort for a very
bad habit.
