I've been looking at them on Ebay. A set of Richmond gears go for $140,
new. Don't know what that would be in 1970 dollars, but they're really
cheap today, so they must have been just as cheap then.

My pickup has 18" wheels and tall tires on it and the engine runs around
1800 RPM at 75mph (22mpg). I figure I can slow down a bit and install 4.10
gears so I can have some fun with it at the drags. 4.10s would put the rpm
at approximately 2100 at 70mph.
