Talks with EU are progressing

(29-Sep-98) - Talks between the European Union commissionar Karel van Miert
and Bernie Ecclestone are progressing according to Stefan Rating, spokesman
of the EU. He explained in a short press conference yesterday that the two
sides have made substantial progress on a number of issues but there is
still a long way to go.

Van Miert is not only investigating the marketing of Formula One, but all
motorsport events in the EU. He doesn't expect to be able to have a
statement on the matter before November this year.

It is important for Ecclestone that his company will remain in control of
the exclusive television rights of Formula One otherwise the floatation of
Formula One on the stockmarket could be in danger.
