Schumacher continues testing dominance

(01-Oct-98) - Most of the Formula 1 teams were testing at Barcelona
yesterday, with Michael Schumacher once again topping the times. Several of
the teams employed test drivers to carry out some of the work, presumably
to rest the race drivers before the Japanese Grand Prix.

Schumacher and Ferrari were testing tyres for Goodyear after the Akron
company's product was soundly beaten in the Luxembourg event. The second
car was driven by test driver Luca Badoer, who worked on the set-up and the
aerodynamics of the F300.

Schumacher was followed by David Coulthard, the sole McLaren representative
at the Spanish track. An incredibly promising third was the Stewart-Ford of
Rubens Barrichello, followed by Benetton's Giancarlo Fisichella.

Williams once again had Alex Zanardi on hand as part of the Champ Car
champion's bid to get used to F1 cars before his Williams debut next year.
However, the Italian had to miss the last four hours of the test due to the
approaching CART round in Vancouver. Max Wilson took over the second car
for the remainder of the test, while Juan Pablo Montoya had completed most
of the actual testing.

BAR continued to test their 'hack', Mechachrome engined chassis with
Jean-Christophe Boullion at the wheel. The Tyrrell based car set 11th
fastest time.
