*** Quoting Charles Hunter from a message to Carol Shenkenberger ***
CH> Years ago, I was stopped in a long line of cars in a parking lot. It
CH> was Christmas season; and everyone was in a hurry. After standing
CH> still for over 10 minutes, the lady in a VW bus in front of me lost he
CH> cool and threw the bus in reverse hitting the front of my Chevy
CH> Caprice. She exited her vehicle walking back and examining the
CH> extensive damage to her vehicle and commenting..."buddy, I hope you
CH> have insurance!". I quickly retorted "Why? You backed into me". She
CH> then stated, (with a straight face) that her husband had told her that
CH> anytime she gets hit in the rear it's the other guys fault.
*sigh* Foolish woman. As you know, that's not *always* true, and definately
not true for 'stopped' cars.
I'm one of the few folks I know, who has been rear-ended and been counted 'at
fault'. Fact was, I was changing lanes. The fellow was behind me, saw my
turn signal, swung into the lane I was changing into, and sped up trying to
get ahead of me. Had I seen him, I could have avoided it by swerving back
into my origional lane.
No proof though that I didnt just 'change infront of him and not leave room
for him to stop' so it went on my insurance, not his. Judge wiped the
driving record clean though as it's only the second ticket I've ever had in
over 20 years of driving. (The first was parking overtime at church when I
was 17, 21 years ago).
