subject: Use Your Handbrake!

-> Slightly off topic also, but since standard transmissions have enjoye
-> comeback, it's worth telling: When I took driver's education in high
-> school way back when, we were explicitly and carefully taught to how
-> on a hill. We were taken to a steep hill for practise. Put on your
-> handbrake, put the car in first, let the clutch out and step on the g
-> gradually, as usual. When the car pulls forward on the brake, then l
-> brake off. No slippage. A similar tactic will work for backing out
-> parallel parking spot at the side of a downslope. I always put on my
-> handbrake when I have to stop on a steep upslope. Of course, there a
-> lot of people who don't know to do this, so it is prudent not to get
-> close to the person in front of you when you have to stop on an upslo
-> At least, though, using the handbrake to your advantage makes it
-> unnecessary to deal with belligerent tailgaters when you're stopped o

At a car show i saw a slightly more 'aggressive' way for dealing iwth
tail gaters, this guy had a spark plug stuck in his pipe and a wire
running to a switch that was spliced intot he ignition coil, when the
engine was reving high he'd hit the swtich and a little 3 foot flame
would shoot out the back. I'm sure this isnt legal nor an alterantive,
but it was funny none the less, also saw a Mustang, that had his brake
lights wired to a switch, when a tail gater was behind him, he'd just
hit the swithc, his lights would come on, and the person behind him
would back off, i actually saw this work, it was pretty amazing.
