| subject: | Re: PC buyers aim to cut the `crapware` |
From: "Frank Haber" Back in the Win98/Early2k days, even Sony (not known for great after-sale support on its VAIOs) provided separate opsys and driver disks with clear menu choices on what to install. I've used merged (for SPs) install disks and selective crap-reinstall on dozens of Sonys, HPs and Dells. Activation sort of cramps you when you do this. And then there are the sad cases, "The serviceman removed my spyware by backing up my files, wiping, and reinstalling a barred volume license. What do I do? There's no restore partition on this machine." What's described above is only a pale echo of what we used to have, before we all moved to Kuala Lumpur. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
