My wife (at that time), my two boys and I drove from Covington to Miami to
visit my sister. I had a brand new 1965 Chevelle 6-cylinder station wagon
at the time, so the boys got plenty of rest. The distance from Covington
to Miami at the time was 917 miles. No Interstate, but Florida had the
Sunshime State Parkway (a toll road) which I refused to use. Instead, I
drove to Hwy 1 and proceeded south. That got old real fast because every
town we hit had a working signal light on every corner. I decided to spend
the money to get on the Parkway and was immediately pulled over by a
"Smokey." One of the two license plate bulbs on the wagon wasn't
working and he advised me in the strongest terms possible to get it
replaced as soon as I hit the next off ramp. I got off, went into a
convenience store and got a bulb. The price on the bulb package read .35
cents, but I was charged .50 cents for it. When I questioned the clerk
about this, he said they can charge any price they want. 'Welcome to
Florida,' I thought.

This is but one of the reasons I don't like Florida.

Regards,

Roger
