Don't know about the 5 or 6 shot thing; though I know of several police
officers who have gone to more powerful sidearms after NOT stopping a felon
with the 9mm. During a near fatal lack in judgement, I allowed magazine
capacity to influence my choice.

It could happen!
I've been passing on this silly debate, because it seems to come up a couple
times a year. There will always be ignorant folk who will rally around some
foolish buzz. For the aware of us who have been in combat, there is no
question to the .45's superiority. When in doubt, check with someone who's
been there. That ends the debate; however John, you know there will always be
an armchair enthusiast who still wants it his way. Heck, there are a lot of
people who consider Jeff Cooper an expert!
I would mention that the FBI's rapid response unit went from 9mm to .45; but
in a surge of irresponsible greed, our government also went from .45 to 9mm
for our armed forces... regardless of the lessons learned since the turn of
this century.
JD> Now the same for a .45
Once in a while I'll shoot competition. Several courses of fire involve
steel targets. The .45 users had no problem; however, the targets had to be
adjusted because the 9mm's couldn't knock the steels down.
Sarge says: a person should familiarize themself with the most effective
weapons they are comfortable/proficient with. If that's a 9mm, .38 wheel
gun, or whatever, it will be the best for that individual.
Adieu,
Sarge
