Stewart wins tech boss battle

(27-Oct-98) - Top F1 designer Gary Anderson will join Stewart following the
resolution of his dispute with the Arrows team.

47-year-old Anderson has been at the centre of a legal tug-of-war between
the two teams when Arrows boss Tom Walkinshaw claimed that Anderson had
signed a binding agreement with the team when he left Jordan in July.

Although it is not known how the matter was settled, sources say that an
agreement has been reached. Anderson will officially start work next week,
but is travelling to the Japanese Grand Prix to observe his new team.

The design wizard will join Stewart as chief designer under technical
director Alan Jenkins, although he arrives too late to have any real
influence on the initial design of the 1999 car, the SF-3. It is scheduled
to be finished in mid-December.

It is thought that Anderson pulled out of Arrows when he realised he would
not be designing a new car for the 1999 season. He is also said to have
been put off by the team's relatively tight budget.
