I get a lot of "Unknown" calls.  Sometimes I allow the answering
machine to take the call and, of course, no messages are recorded, and
sometimes I just let it ring, having unplugged the machine.

I have a couple of friends in Germany, but it's been so long since I spoke
with them I can't recall the name of the city they live in.
