LR> KS> for so little, you were lucky. What was wrong with the 327, rings?
LR>From when I had the heads off once, you could see the rings from the edge
LR>wear on the pistons but it did great when you floored the gas pedal.
Of course with the head back on, right? :) What type heads did you have?
LR>The
LR>valve guides were wearing out and it was having trouble getting up long
LR>steep hills. I didn't have the money at the time to overhaul it so I sold
LR>it for $300 and bought the 350. A friend of my fathers overhauled it and
LR>put it in his '65 ElCamino. He bored it into a 334 and said it hauls ass.
Dem Chevy small-blocks could be fixed up for a very reasonable amount.
Most of my customers were Chevy owners (I leaned towards Chevy also),
and getting parts was easy because I got them for Wholesale price,
instead of the retail price at the dealerships/stores they would have
paid. It's nice to have friends at a Chevy parts Dealership.
That 327 I always found to be a good engine, especially the large
journal units that were able to better machines for the street.
LR> KS> Now don't yell, but by chance did you have just water in it during
LR> KS> some lousy winter? One time I had bought a 56' Chevy 210 with a pucky
LR>I did the block was froze solid.
ugh :(

LR> KS> pushed out and the block was cracked. After $50 I had to lay out, I

LR>a water foutain. I believe one of them behind the fly wheel is leaking
oo
LR>which means the engine has to come out.
Guess what Landon? Cross your fingers you can save the block with
what it has been through, even though I did a re-build on this 400
cubic inch small block that BADLY overheated. I had to buy 8 new
pistons, trouble was the parts man kept on ordering the wrong rods.
I don't know what exactly happened to this block, but she must have
been running on steam for like a half an hour! Probably some female
was driving it and didn't notice the idiot light. :)
LR> KS> pissed and I returned the engine pretty quick thereafter. From that
s
LR> KS> how I got my Vette 327 V-8 and that mutha hauled!
LR>327's are good racing motors they spin good. Mine before it wore
LR>out would really go. Somebody told me about a 305 they were able to spin
to
LR>12,000 RPMs I don't know if I believe him or not, like his breath alot of
hi
LR>stories smelled like... ahem.
Hahaha!!!, the 305 had a longer stroke than it's bore and couldn't pass
6 grand with a stock setup. Even a modified small-block could maybe get
to 9 or ten grand at most. By where I live, the hairiest motors were
the open-wheeled modified cars at our local 1/4 mile oval and they were
pushing 6-700 HP!
Take Care..
