 By default, most of the companies are going for Win95 apps anyway,
 since DOS is dying.  NT is not up to gaming speed yet...  Unix is
 about the only other option and there are '31 flavors' of that to
 deal with.  Mac OS has it's games too, but nothing like Win's base.
 So I doubt that MS would need to _pay_ anyone to develop for them.
 For universal compatibity (such as it is) it's the best option.
 On the other hand, look at what AMD is doing with their new "MMX2"
 clone chip: they're writing the driver and giving it to MS for
 incorporation with DirectX.  Both sides win.  No money changes hands.

 *laugh*  I can see it now: the boys from Redmond walk up to all the
 game companies in Texas and demand they write for Win95 and nothing
 else -or else.   There'd be a fragfest worth seeing! 
 The fact that it'll probably end up that way anyway notwithstanding.
 MS just needs to be humble on this one and not demand squat.
