LT> 1. In which episode did this happen?
"The Best of Both Worlds" pt.1 (season 4 finale), Picard was captured
by the Borg.
"The Best of Both Worlds" pt.2 (season 5 premiere), Picard was
rescued.
LT> 2. How?
During an encounter with a Borg ship encroaching into Federation
space, the Borg were able to beam on board and capture Picard right off
the bridge while the others were distracted.
LT> 3. How were the others able to save him?
After a failed attempt to destroy the Borg ship with the Borgified
Picard aboard it, resulting in THE absolute single most tense moment in
Trek history, IMHO. Riker gave the order to fire, cut to black, To Be
Continued... 3 months 'til we saw the rest of it. All subsequent
cliffhangers have paled by comparison.
Anywho, back to the description... During a diversionary attack
by the separated E sections, Worf and Data were able to slip in close to
the TechnoCube in a shuttle, beam aboard, retrieve Picard/Locutus, beam
back to the shuttle, then back to the E just before the shuttle got
toasted. The TechnoCube continued on its way to Earth, with the E in
persuit, while Data and Dr. Crusher studied the Borgified Picard. Data
eventualy gained access to Picard, and the Borg network in the process,
which allowed him to shut down the Cube just as it reached Earth.

In the 2nd season ep "Q Who," Q sent the Enterprise part-way across
the galaxy as a lesson to them about what dangers lie ahead. They ended
up in the path of a Borg ship, which attempted to assimilate them, and
in the process, removed a sizable chunk of the hull, resulting in the
deaths of 18 people. Picard ended up admitting to Q that they weren't
prepared for this, and all but begged to be sent back. Oh well....
