Hello Stephen!
Replying to a message of Stephen Haffly to William Johnson:
SH> Hi William,
SH> The PAS is one of the nicer cards. It has both 16 bit and a full SB 8
SH> bit card on one. If you aren't getting sounds in DOS, it might be
SH> because OS/2 sets it up by default without the SB side enabled. You
SH> could check out the manuals, but I will enclose my Config.sys lines
SH> for you:
SH> DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\MVPRODD.SYS /T:1 /I:10 /D:5 /S:1,220,1,5 /N:PAS161$
SH> DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\AUDIOVDD.SYS PAS161$
Best answer I have recieved thus far, but sad to say these are things I
have tried on my own. :(
SH> Of course, you will have to change the interrupts to suit your system.
SH> This works well for me.
SH> For some sounds though, I do need to load the DOS mixer and device
SH> driver. My older PAS (lableled Thunder Audio Spectrum 16) does not
SH> initialize MIDI sounds correctly unless I load the DOS mixer with the
SH> DOS driver in the settings menu. That one reads like this:
SH> DOS Device:
SH> D:\SPECTRUM\MVSOUND.SYS D:5 Q:10 J:0 S:1,220,1,5 V:80
SH> If I do this, the MIDI is initialized and the sounds play fine. If
SH> not, no MIDI sounds, and it interferes with the .WAV sounds as well.
SH> At that point, a reboot will set the card back in order.
SH> Hope this helps,
Ok let me explain the results I have gotten >:) If I don't load
mvsound.sys, just use mvprodd.sys like you have shown above, my sounds(wavs)
in OS/2 work fine, and the music(midi) for games work fine, but I get no
sounds(wavs). :(
If I load mvprodd.sys like above, and load mvsound.sys as a device, in
settings, then I do get music(midi), and sounds(wavs), but only for the first
time I goto DOS. When I return from that DOS session the sounds(wavs) in OS/2
nolonger work, and if I go back to DOS the sounds(wavs), and music(midi)
there nolonger work(sound card's not being reset?) until I reboot.
I have also tried not loading mvprodd.sys, which makes the DOS seesions
work fine, but no sound(wavs) in OS/2.
So I can either load mvprodd.sys and get sounds in OS/2, but no sounds in
DOS, or load mvsound.sys and get sounds in DOS, but no sounds in OS/2. >'(
BTW...what's the v:80 volume?
Bye, William!
