If the police have reasonable grounds to respond as an emergency vehicle,
they do have the right to do it, the same with fire and ambulance equipment.
In fact, the law specifically gives them the right to do it if there are
reasonable grounds. There would be (4) significant differences between the
police speeding in an emergency and you speeding: 1) the law doesn't allow
you to speed; 2) you would not be responding to an emergency and would be
endangering lives for a simple thrill or whatever reason you came out of the
tunnel at 125 miles per hour; 3) you don't have the training to operate as an
emergency vehicle; 4) you don't have the lights and siren to warn of your
approach.
In short, you were grossly exceeding the speed limit in the tunnel for no
reason at all, just endangering life and property for fun or the thrill of
it. Even if you have experience on a race track, you would lack the reason,
equipment, and training. There is a big difference between driving on a race
track and driving on a city street.
