| subject: | Re: Survey: 30% Of Businesses Have No Plans To Upgrade To Windows Vista |
From: "John Beamish" And why would they? At some point MS will stop selling and stop supporting XP. New equipment coming in will be Vista OS and then companies can choose one of three routes: to buy Vista licences for existing hardware; operate in a mixed mode environment; migrate to another OS. MS isn't stupid, as new applications software (Office, SQL Server, etc., etc., etc.) comes out, it will be increasingly tied to functionality only available in Vista. As the Fram oil filter ads used to say: you can pay me now or you can pay me later. It was the same thing with the switch from leaded to unleaded gas. For quite some time, you could still buy leaded. But, after a while, new vehicles only used unleaded and you could no longer (easily) find leaded pumps. After a while, new computers will only come with Vista.
