Bob, I'm looking for the same thing. I don't think it matters where you are
for you and I are looking for as pertains to reception. I've got a Yaesu
FRG-7 receiver I use to listen to world press stations. What I would prefer
is a reliable means of receiving the services you mention via data. I'm
thinking of getting a data terminal node controller (TNC) like the PK-232 to
see what news data I can pull. There's got to be a better way (cheaper that
is). After spending twelve years in Europe receiving worldwide press access
I am not impressed with the news coverage/access available to the common
citizen of this great nation. There is a lot of news services and access,
but you have to pay for it. It's free in Europe. I don't understand that.
I can't tolerate CNN anymore. You ever quantify the news composition of CNN
programming on a normal broadcast day? It's very shallow. Luckily I do get
the live wire feeds at the office. There's a lot of interesting things that
impact or will eventually impact on our foreign policy, economics, and health
that just doesn't get coverage in our common press services in the U.S.
(unless you read the International Herald Tribune or the Economist). I'm
trying to find a copy of Monitoring Times you referenced. There's 50,000
people in my area, but news coverage is weak. (We rated fourth from the
bottom in the nation's educational ratings.) Please keep me posted on what
you find. I'll do likewise. Thanks. Mr. Angel.
