While I would do that (Comodo) on a computer I control (family), I'm not
going to do that on this on.
No, not able to have AOL as an ISP without the crappy software.
What you can do, is log on, then MINIMIZE the AOL Software, and use your
own browser (Fire Fox, IE7, Opera, etc) and hit the internet that way, and
not have to browse with the AOL embedded browser.
