You're right, except the blown Fords (Studies came along later...) were
pretty rare. But the dual quad 283 did put out more HP, though it was
rated lower. This was true on the streets and at the drags, and
later confirmed by Smokey Yunick. But the FI did excel at road racing,
where the carb float bowls would allow fuel to slosh around too much....
The FI was certainly interesting, but a pain to keep running properly.
And there weren't many "fuel injected Sting Rays" "shutting down" too
many "413s" (from the Beach Boys).
BTW, ever notice how the early tunnel ram manifold resembled the runners
on the Rochester FI? I wonder how that came about ...   ;-)
