| subject: | Re: Survey: 30% Of Businesses Have No Plans To Upgrade To Windows Vista |

I was in "big corp" today and asked them about Vista / platform upgrade plans. Keep in mind that since Win3.1 days, these guys have been on a 3 year lease / hardware / software upgrade cycle. Something has changed, because they are nearing the end of the current 3 year cycle, but have not even announced plans for a software or hardware upgrade. Based on their rollout / deployment planning lead process it will be another 2 years - so they have extended their lease cycle by 2 years. On the one hand, I would think a 5 year lease would be crappy economics. On the other hand, you eliminate the disruption of a deployment cycle with little payback, since most of the security improvements of Vista are obtained for them today on XP artificially through other policies / methods. This is not surprising, since XP seems to fulfull their needs quite well for the foreseeable future. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
