that could very well be part of the problem... especially with the telcos
updating or having updated their equipment to handle the DSL digital
stuff... i used to get 56k V90 connections all over the place but haven't
been able to since my telco upgraded their stuff for the digital traffic...
IIRC, they've really tightened down on the freq range allowed to be used
such that we can't use any additional higher freqs above 3000hz like we
could before... they only ever guaranteed 300hz to 3000hz so they are
within their rights to chop anything above 3000hz and do their own thing...
