NYC EVENTS FOR OCTOBER 2005
-------------------------

[part 1 of 2]
The following astronomy activities in the commuting ring enclosing
New York City are operated by various organizations. A few cultural
items of special importance to City astronomers may be included.
Altho NYC Events confirms the listed items, they are subject to
change by their sponsors. Check with their contacts. For events which
missed NYC Events, check the NYSkies Yahoogroup forum. Join NYSkies by
sending a blank email to 'nysky-subscribe{at}yahoogroups.com'.
Let the sponsor of an event you attend know that you learned of
its event thru NYC Events. You may ask for the next issue of NYC
Events thru our email 'nyskiesastronomy{at}earthlink.net' if you didn't
yet join the forum.
Hours thru October 29th are Eastern Daylight Savings Time. From
October 30th they are Eastern Standard Time.
Mars proximity
------------
Mars comes to his opposition, when he, Earth, and Sun are lined up,
on November 7th. However, the closest distance between Mars and Earth
occurs on October 29th, a week earlier. Special Mars viewing sessions
are planned by many astronomy centers. Please ask at your local one
for late news on such sessions. Understand that Mars is RIGHT NOW, as
you read this as much as a month before proximity, the brightest
'star' in the east in late evening. Do NOT wait until the proximity
date to look for Mars! Enjoy him at other starviewings all thru
October.
