New engine for Arrows

(16-Oct-98) - The Arrows team hopes to use a new D-specification engine
during the last Grand Prix of the season in Japan. The engine was tested
successfully this week at Silverstone where Pedro Diniz completed 80
trouble-free laps with it.

Mika Salo still ran with the C-specification engine last Wednesday but
suffered a gearbox problem early in the morning. Later, the Finn completed
49 laps to evaluate aerodynamic modifications. On Thursday, both cars where
equipped with C-specification engines which ran reliably all day. The
teams' test driver Steve Watson will shakedown the three cars, which will
be shipped to Japan, on Tuesday at Silverstone. It's expected that Arrows
will use the D-specification engine during qualifying with the spare car
equipped with a C-specification engine. Based on the results and the
availability of engines, the team might decide to use the D-specification
engines during the race as well.
