Anthony,
I'm not sure on the map where Fayetteville is, but from Memphis, we have 3
places we go to, generally for checkout dives. One is Heber Springs in AR,
the other is Martha's quarry, about 20 miles east of Nashville (my favorite
fresh water place to date), and Cerelian (sp???) springs up along the
Kentucky/Tennessee border. Haven't been to the latter, but was told it was
"so-so". They do have their own air, unlike Martha's Quarry.
Our local dive shop "The Dive Shop" (NASDS owned and operated, HQ here in
Memphis), leads monthly trips to Panama City. They take a bus with sleeping
accomodations down with 10 to 12 folks. It's a fun trip, one that I am
scheduled to go down on at the end of May. Trip costs generally run around
$325 which includes air/weight/transportation/accomodations for 4 dives on
the weekend.
If you are interested in talking to them, the number is 901-763-3483. Little
Rock also has a Dive Shop with NASDS affiliation. The director of education
is based out of Little Rock. I'll meet him next month for the first time
when I go for my OWI (open water instructor) certification down in Grand
Cayman.
I've been spending 3 days (20 hours)/week with our Dive Shop for the last 4
months preparing for my certification doing instruction (class and pool)
and other activities.
To me, there is nothing better than working this close to the guy (Doug
McNeese) that owns NASDS and being a hop/skip away from the guys in Little
Rock that handle the curriculum for Safe Dive Education. I'm not trying to
slam any agencies here, it's just good working/learning with folks that make
all the decisions on education. There appears to less "filter" loss this
close to the chain of command. I'm sure if I was with another agency, I
would probably have the same opinion.
Anyways, get wet and have....
FUN FUN FUN!!!!!!!!
Beery
