Neither X2 nor K56Flex is likely to be the standard adopted by the
ITU, so both are probably interim measures.  _Therefore_, whatever
you buy, make sure you have an upgrade path.  If you buy a flash ROM
modem for software updates, make _sure_ it has a programmable DSP
(digital signal processor) as well.
There are flash ROM modems out there than cannot be upgraded to K56
simply because their fixed-function datapump would have to be
replaced.  The flash ROM alone isn't enough, necessarily.
