Even if I didn't know that from other sources, I know it as an Episcopalian. Thomas Cranmer was, perhaps, the greatest master of English prose who ever lived, but the poor dear thought that emending "Lord have mercy" to "Lord have mercy upon us" would make it suitable for the same music as "Kyrie eleison", just because both have seven syllables. His poetry is museum-quality Tudor Drab; fortunately, he knew it, and wrote as little as he could get away with. But Thomas Cranmer wrote the Book of Common Prayer, not "Babylon 5". --- SBBSecho 2.12-Win32* Origin: Time Warp of the Future BBS - Home of League 10 (1:14/400) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 313 848 @PATH: 14/400 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
