LR>Yes I know Chevy made a lot of small blocks. Hmmm lets see... (correct me
if
LR>I'm wrong) the 262, 265, 267, 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350, 383
(combination

cylendar

Sounds good to me, let's see in my lifetime I had a 265, 265, 283,283
327, 307, but unfortunately never a 350 V-8 even though I worked on many
of them. You see I used to have a business for several years in the
70's and a fondness for Chevy's. :) You know the 383 you mentioned was
accomplished by using a 400 SB V-8 with the crankshaft of a 350 using
special bearings. The 400 also needed external balancing..... There's
nothing wrong with a healthy L-88 427 V-8 in a 70' Chevelle. What was
real nice right from a Dealer was the SS 454 V-8 Chevelle in 71'. It ws
just about the same engine as the 460 HP engine offered in the Vette
of the same year and same engine size...You wouldn't want to have the
head of 262 V-8 on a bigger engine mainly because of the piston would
have too much of a chance hitting the heads at TDC. :( I always started
with the PowerPack (doublehump marking on the front of the heads) since
they were just better heads. Later on with the Z-28 (302 V-8 at first),
you could get the 2.02 inch intake valves for better breathing.
