Mosquitoes are "muggen" in Dutch but I can't remember them being
very bothersome.  They are very bothersome here and may now carry West Nile
disease.

The inhabitants might not think so.  If I'd looked at my Dutch-English
dictionary I would have picked up the meaning as well.
