F1 Calender of 1999 (5-Oct-98) - Formula One 'boss' Bernie Ecclestone denied to confirm next years calendar. It's reported that the planned Grand Prix of Malaysia is still in doubt while TV rights are again an issue for the French Grand Prix. Ecclestone only wanted to confirm last week that the season will start on March 7th in Melbourne. The Grand Prix of Malaysia is scheduled to take place before the season ending Japanese Grand Prix and after the last European Grand Prix. But the current political situation in Malaysia is said to be the major concern of Eccelstone. Also the Luxembourg Grand Prix is a concern of Ecclestone. The Grand Prix, which was previously named European Grand Prix, was renamed to Luxembourg Grand Prix to avoid the anti-tobacco advertising laws in Germany. Former Bundeskanseler Helmut Kohl was personally responsible for the exception Formula One was getting from that law. But now that Kohl was not re-elected this exception is in jeopardy. Not many changes are expected on the 1999 calendar. More changes are expected for the year 2000. --- Msged/386 4.20 beta 4* Origin: Blizzard of Ozz, Melbourne, Australia (3:635/728.4{at}fidonet) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 633/267 |
