Silverstone celebrates 50th anniversary

(3-Oct-98) - The famous circuit of Silverstone celebrates it's 50th
anniversary this weekend. In it's existence, the circuit has evolved as the
home of Formula One with many teams having their factory in the
neighbourhood of the circuit.

During a party on Saturday night, attended by over 10.000 people from the
British motorsport scene, the best Formula One driver and Team Manager will
be announced. It's expected that the honor will be awarded to a driver and
team owner from the early years of Formula One.

The first race at Silverstone was raced in 1948 when more than 100.000
people showed up for an event which was organised in less than two months.
The circuit is build on an old military airfield which was abandoned after
the second World War.
