-=> Quoting Nolan Penney to Guy Putnam <=-
GP>Face it Nolan . . . he's an anti-gunner, & he's going out to vote for
GP>an anti-gun candidate, just like Sarah Brady would do. Sarah is a
GP>Republican too, you know.
NP> You know Guy, I've been known to piss off a person or two in my day.
NP> But even I don't go to the lengths you do to get everybody riled up
NP> and angry.
Before anything changes, anti-gun voters are going to have to take a look
at themselves. I guess the alternative is that we just pretend that
everybody is progun & keep typing away about the guns we _used_ to have.
NP> I rather doubt Mr Perez considers himself anti-gun.
I'm sure he doesn't.
NP> In fact, I probably wouldn't consider him anti-gun myself . . .
I doubt I would either . . . until I saw a Dole sticker on his car.
NP> Calling him that like
NP> this will not do much for getting people to consider your argument.
I didn't "call" him anything. I indicated his politics were anti-gun. At
least that is going to be the net political effect of his vote.
NP> Tends to turn them off to you and to the argument.
I thought that was what progun people were supposed to do . . . try to get
others to vote for progun candidates.
I used to be anti-gun myself. I voted for Reagan. On May 19, 1986 I found
out how anti-gun Reagan was when he signed the machinegun manufacturing ban
into "law." I had to live with that, that we lost a big portion of our
freedom & our country . . . . & _I_ voted for it! I might have just as
well bought a plane ticket & flown up to DC & shook Mr. Reagan's hand for
signing it. Never again . . . .
It had a very sobering effect when I realized what I had done. I was truly
anti-gun because that was the net political effect of what I had done. It
was no comfort to know that all my friends were doing it. And I never
could pass it off to my conscience that I had been so patriotic & was doing
my duty as an American, because he "appeared" less anti-gun than his
opponent. I think now that there is only one kind of anti-gun politician,
& he doesn't come in different degrees. Degrees are just talk.
I didn't consider myself, or others, as a stupid fool, moron, etc. I had
been deceived! I want to tell others they are being fooled, too. However,
I guess we can just all pretend that it doesn't make any difference . . .
