It is a '77. Yes I was able to fix it it kept going after the backfire like
nothing at all was wrong. Since then it has died four times in two days and
started right back up without turning the ignition off or waiting for any
length of time. I just pulled over pumped the gas a couple of times and
turned the key and it started right up.
I remember about three years ago a friend's '78 Mercury Zephur had fireballs
literally coming right up out of the carb a foot above the engine. Replaced
the ignition module and it ran fine. Perhaps I need to do the same with mine
before I end up stranded somewhere.
