cb> Is the 56.6k actually real or is it all done via a software
cb> component?
It's 56000, it's real, and it's done with a different protocol which
is written in software - just as V.34 is.
cb> mainly.. does the 56.6 upgrade activate some chip or something
cb> already built in to make the 56.6 become active.. or is it just
cb> some sort of quicker protocal with better compression?
It's different software if you have a programmable DSP and flash ROM,
it's different software on a different chip if you don't.
