Ferrari flat out

(6-Oct-98) - Ferrari has been testing virtually non-stop in an attempt to
guarantee Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine finish one-two in the
Japanese Grand Prix.

A one-two finish is the only way the Italian team can guarantee the
Drivers' Championship for Michael Schumacher. Even if Schumacher wins,
Hakkinen can still win the championship by finishing second.

Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn said: "We'll be endeavouring to
make sure Eddie's in there trying to spoil the party. The only benefit
McLaren has got is it can afford to follow Michael home to a finish, which
gives a bit more of a cushion. Otherwise, it's all completely open."

Irvine is known for always running well at Suzuka and names it as his
favourite circuit on the Grand Prix calendar, however, Brawn admits Ferrari
need to make a step forward: "We'll need to give it a bit extra."

"There's a lot of work going on with the tyres and the car, and there
is no doubt we will have a better car then than we've got now. If it all
rolls right on the day, then Eddie should be very competitive."
