Replying to a message of Ross Cassell to God Dan: RC> I have never had a rabid fundamentalist come to my door either, RC> therefore by your logic they must not exist either. RC> I have had the Jehovahs come by, but they politely left upon the first RC> "No Thank You". Oh and these people werent trying to convert then, RC> they were inviting you to a revival at their Church so that they RC> could try to convert you then, which would involve a conscious RC> decision to attend. AFAIC there visits were no more annoying than a RC> saleman trying to pitch their wares. RC> Now Judith could tell you horror stories about them street preachers RC> in her part of South Carolina. There were a few of them briefly visiting in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, a couple of decades ago. Seems a small church in Louisville, NE, had set up a school for its parishoners' children. The state Department of Education immediately tried to shut it down (can't have the control of the children in non-public hands now, can we?) and eventually had a judge fine the parents of each child several hundred dollars a day for every day the child was not in the local public school. Pastor Sileven was also charged with contempt of court. Sileven eventually won and the state laws WRT school attendance were changed, but those street preachers were all around the courthouse during his trial. Note that the pastor left the state shortly thereafter and his church disbanded, the church building is now the city of Louisville's senior citizens' center. I think the pastor got involved with some tax protestors and got his tail in a crack there, too, this time with the feds - but I haven't really kept track of him. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/250 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 140/1 222/2 226/0 249/303 SEEN-BY: 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 SEEN-BY: 396/45 633/260 267 690/734 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 2222/700 SEEN-BY: 2320/100 105 2905/0 @PATH: 300/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
