That was brought to my attention by numerous people in the echo, that the
topics had strayed from the intended purpose of ASKACOP. Many of us are
trying to get the echo back on topic and help those who don't wish to wade
through a ton of politics and philosophy before getting to an on-topic
message. This is assuming that you are talking about ASKACOP. There are many
police departments around the country which try very hard to involve
citizens. It has or should become apparent that the police are vastly
outnumbered by the bad guys and are handcuffed without the assistance of good
citizens.
Just for a little bit of humor, I remember talking to an elderly lady who was
experiencing problems in her neighborhood. I suggested starting a
neighborhood watch program in her area and getting her neighbors involved
with solving the problems in her neighborhood. She told me that she was too
old to patrol up and down the alleys. I explained what a Neighborhood Watch
did, and she helped to form a very active and successful program. This type
of a program definitely opens excellent channels of communications between
the citizens and the police. It every area had a functioning neighborhood
watch program, crime would definitely be reduced.
